In the framework of Edmonds (see below), this type of approach would fit into Expert / Soft-System-Based or Expert / Intuitive category. Are you telling me that there are Common Core-aligned curricula out there that teach math the “old way”? A good expository teacher will have a firm grasp of the subject and an organized approach to revealing it in a logical sequence for the students.
