The teacher may write lesson plans of their own, borrow plans from other teachers, or search online or within books for lesson plans. Sudbury schools operate under the basic tenets of individuality and democracy and take both principles to extremes that are unrivaled in the education arena. Two of the three students were from the first time I taught that way, and the third was from the second time. They can self-assess by drawing a line on the thermometer. These teachers believe prescribed curriculum in teaching mathematics. Johnson in the (18)80's; Johnson required every student in engineering to use it. Log tables were the ubiquitous tool for calculations. Such tests rely on one-right answer. “Opinions and values are excluded from this type of testing” (p. 162). This permits effective sorting or categorizing chunks of information in the working of short-term memory. Graduate students will do an extra paper, project, or presentation per instructor. Students aren't expected to participate much in this style of teaching. ¹ Teachers who have a demonstrator model of teaching tend to run teacher-centered cases with an emphasis on demonstration.

I use a small dry erase board, and the students sit on the carpet in front of me so that I can see exactly what they are doing. Tier 3 programs should include a data-based process for identifying specific causes of poor performance in mathematics, and individual interventions should be developed to target those specific deficits while monitoring both intervention-specific and generalized improvements in mathematics.
